Deaf Solutions 3 Tutors

Gary L Taylor – Lead Tutor

Originally from Scotland, Gary moved with his family to the north of England as a young child. He grew up with a strong Deaf identity as both his parents are Deaf and British Sign Language was the first family language.

In addition to gaining formal BSL linguistics qualifications, Gary undertook study in BSL specific teaching at Durham University, and City and Guilds qualifications in teaching management in Teesside. He subsequently worked as a BSL tutor for many years across three Local Education Authorities. Gary has also worked for Signature, the leading awarding body for BSL qualifications in the UK, as an examiner/assessor for many years. This has provided him with excellent knowledge and experience of the examination process and necessary student standards and has provided for an extensive knowledge of regional and cultural variations in BSL use.

Over recent years, Gary has trained as a Deaf Interpreter and worked freelance in this role as well as working for two years as a Communication Development Worker within Deaf mental health services developing and facilitating training for staff in BSL & Deaf Awareness and Communication Tactics. However, Gary continues to love the challenge of teaching and set up Deaf Solutions 3 in 2005.

Gary was awarded North West Teacher of the Year by Signature in 2011 and again in 2013!
